API & data access

Atlas analytical data is freely available as UTF-8 JSON. An endpoint directory for machines is available at /api/. Language models can find additional interpretation guidance in /llms.txt; tools can use the formal specification at /openapi.json.

Quick start

  1. GET /api/countries – check supported countries and country codes.
  2. GET /api/metrics – check available metrics, units and time resolutions.
  3. Use the smallest suitable data endpoint and preserve the returned source, period and quality information.

Operational status

Availability of both databases and source status from the latest monthly run:

/api/health

source_warnings indicates retained older data or failed or unknown source statuses. If the response shows publication=not_published the attempt was not published. A technically healthy service does not guarantee up-to-date source data.

Language and stable identifiers

Add lang=en to analytical API URLs for English labels, or lang=de for German. Requests without lang retain the existing German presentation. IDs, numerical values, reporting dates and status codes do not change. label_de remains German; label_en is English; label and the presentation fields follow lang.

Important rules

  • null means missing or not applicable and must not be interpreted as zero.
  • Units, actual reporting periods, data status, quality information and sources must be preserved.
  • retained_source_periods and retained_source_metrics identify older monthly data and dependent metrics retained due to an Ember source gap. Time series and country profiles report quality_status=retained_source_gap for these values. They have not been freshly confirmed; missing data was not replaced with null or zero.
  • The Atlas uses the following code for the United Kingdom: UK.
  • Community voting on Europa Overload images is not an analytical data interface and is not intended for automated voting.
